The lyricist of Hamilton and the author William Shatner’s brief exploration of the concept of legacy
William Shatner (with Joshua Brandon) wrote the book “Boldly Go Reflections on a Life of Awe and Wonder” in 2022. His book could be considered a legacy project.
A legacy project is some type of physical thing that you create to communicate your legacy to those who come after you. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines legacy as “something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past”. I like how finale song “Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story”, of the musical Hamilton, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, sums up the concept by asking the questions “And when you’re gone, who remembers your name? Who keeps your flame? Who tells your story?”. The musical’s main character quotes, “Legacy. What is a legacy? It’s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see.
William Shatner writes in his book, “When it comes to the question of legacy, all I know-all I feel- is that we should try to do good, try to remember the inherent connection we all have to each other, and to help nurture those connections.” (Page 209). As this is my 111th and final death doula post, I couldn’t have said it better myself.
In conclusion, my 111 posted blogs have been my death doula legacy. The 111-angel number is significant, so that is why there are 111 death doula posts. It signifies my trust and faith in the universe as well as new beginnings for me.
